Acorn and Dharavi Rocks
Once again I pictured how the day would be and it was nothing like it.
I found myself on a motorbike with a man I never met or even knew existed until half an hour earlier on the way to Acorn-center in/close to Dharavi. Next thing I know im in a yellow schoolbus with more then twenty kids that loudly say´s "Hi Sandra!" and start applauding and everywhere I look I meet a smile. We are on our way to Bandra Kurla which, even if it is not more than five minutes ride from Dharavi, might be as far away from it as you can come in Bombay. Kurla Complex had at one point the highest real estate prices in the world and I realize why when I see the area and all the amazing buildings. The American school we wen´t to was unlike anything I´ve seen with it´s own swimmingpool, room for dancing, fotbollplan etc.
The kids where playing fotball and dancing and I stood by watching unable to stop smiling.
In the evening I attended their music-class with Dharavi Rocks. They use recycled waste to create music and their enthusiastic drumming made the air vibrate with energy.
Even though I could not speak with them, since they spoke very little english, I felt very welcome and everyone was so nice. They all captured my heart since the moment I came in to that bus and I am truly inspired and impressed by theese children already. I can´t wait to continue with my research and see more of the NGO´s I will include as well as Dharavi to form an understanding for their everyday life!
